Excerpt | The author discusses the contribution of Cercetări Numismatice, the periodical edited by the Coin Room of the National History Museum of Romania during the last 30 years to the progress of Romanian numismatics. The journal was established in 1978, in a period when two other major Romanian numismatic journals were edited - Studii şi Cercetări Numismatice (since 1957) and Buletinul Societăţii Numismatice Române (re-established in 1972). Today, Cercetări Numismatice is the only important Romanian numismatic periodical still existing in this country, because the two others either stopped to be published or have a very irregular frequency. Since the first moment, Cercetări Numismatice was an open tribune for the cooperation between the professional numismatists and the learned amateurs all-over Romania, senior or young ones. After 1990, the journal bas more and more foreign contributors from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Republic of Moldavia, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Sweden, USA, and from the present issue (2008), from Poland and Turkey. So far, Cercetări Numismatice had published 223 notes, articles and studies and 24 reviews, covering the major topics of the ancient, medieval and modern numismatics, of the art of the medal, heraldry and sigillography. The main aim of the publication for the next period is to remains the most important Romanian numismatic journal and one of the main European numismatic periodicals. |
