Excerpt | This article describes some aspects of the diplomatic relationship between the Ukraine and Romania, built around the presentation of the Defender of the Motherland medal, which was estabished in 1999. The article contains some historical information about the teritory that the curent Ukrainian state occupies, some data about the founding of the first state, after World War I and its evolution up to present times (from the soviet republic up to the proclamation of independence from 1991) and the contemporary tense relations between the Ukraine and its eastern neighbour. A few words are also said about the somewhat problematic bilateral relations between Romania and the Ukraine (teritorial disputes and the rights of ethnic minorities). The medal has a short description in which different aspects of it are presented, form its establisment in 1999 up to 2015, when the ribbon was changed because of the recent conflict with the pro-russian separatists. |
